Feed 5 Peopleon 75 Dollars a Week
Feeding a family on a tight budget isn't necessarily easy but it can be done! With a budget grocery list, cheap meals on the meal plan, the right recipes and a great menu you are well on your way. So here we are sharing How I feed my family on a budget of $75 a week
As a family of 3 we budget $75 a week for groceries/ household cleaning/toiletries etc. I know, not a lot, right? Yet we make it just fine and live comfortable! We've never gone without a meal nor any treats we'd like! Here are my top tips for you and I hope you'll glean something new to help you out and your family budget!
How I feed my family on a budget of $75 a week
1- Plan Your Meals – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner & Snacks!! – Sit down with a pen and paper and plan your meals for two weeks at a time (or longer if you're ambitious!) What does your family like? Have you tried a new recipe lately? Think of what goes a long way when feeding your family.
2- Plan Your Meals According to What's on Sale- Look over the sale ads and plan your meals for what's on sale. I usually like to see what meats are on sale at our local grocery store that I like to shop at and plan meals around those items. It doesn't always work out this way but sometimes it does! Be flexible!
3- Make a list – Now based off of your meal plan for all three meals + snacks write down what you NEED!
4- Stick to the List- It's been said but it's true. Stick to your list. The only time I stray away from my list if I find something marked down/discounted that we use and like. Then I figure out a way to squeeze this in. I may make a quick meal plan change or use left over money from another pay period that I have stuck back.
5- Check for Coupons – For my household items and toiletries I try to coupon shop! For instance you can shop at Family Dollar Stores® and use Family Dollar® Smart Coupons, it's a new and smart way to save more money using their digital coupons! It's super easy with no paper coupons, at checkout you simply enter your phone number and you automatically save money! Receive their emails as reminder and notifications of what's on sale and what they have coupons for!
For instance this week I was able to use two of these coupons below or you can see all of them on this Savings Grid!
- Save $2.00 on ONE Swiffer Refill or Wet Jet solution (excludes trial/travel)
- Save $0.50 on ONE Downy Liquid Fabric Softener/Enhancer 40 load (excludes Downy Libre Enjuague and trial/travel size
- Save $0.50 on ONE Crest Toothpaste 3oz or more or Liquid Gel (excludes Kids and trial/travel size)
- Save $2.00 on ONE Tide Pods or Gain Flings Laundry Detergent (excludes Tide Simply and Gain Flings/Tide Pods 5 ct and trial/travel size).
It's simple to register–> HERE. The next step you will "clip" your coupons then the coupons are saved and you don't need an app or anything printed out, you arrive at the store, get your items and at the checkout you enter your phone number on the keypad and it's automatically completed at the register!
6- Compare Prices- Don't be afraid to get your local newspaper ads and see if there is a store that gives you a better price or is running a sale and you can save a few $.
7- No Junk in the Trunk- Don't buy junk food, cokes, etc. This is where your money spikes and it's not good for you anyway!
8- From Scratch- When you want that treat make it. It's cheaper, better for you and so much tastier!
9- Don't Shop Hungry! You have heard this one a million times, but it's OH SO TRUE! Eat before you go shop. Otherwise your stomach and eyes will not help you stick to your list!
10- Shop/Eat by Seasons- What produce is in season? whatever produce is in season is generally cheaper.
11- Don't buy much in Bulk- For us as a family of three bulk isn't always the best for us in the long run. Access if it is for your family before you assume.
12- What can you Freeze? If there are specials or sales can you freeze it and use it later? Can you plan to make a double recipe and freeze half for another meal? This is my best friend and favorite way to plan and cook!
annnddd as Lauren Greutman says – NO going out to eat!!
